What is Spade?

Spade is the next generation of fintech infrastructure. We’re building a financial data enrichment API purpose built to empower our customers to uncover the truth hidden within their transaction data. We use our vast, ground-truth merchant data set to decipher cryptic transactions, helping customers underwrite, detect fraud, build better banking infrastructure and get a unique understanding of their users’ spending habits.

We’re a fast growing, seed stage, remote friendly company backed by industry experts and top tier investors (including Y-Combinator, Gradient Ventures, and more to be announced soon!). We’re live with >15 customers, and process millions of transactions a month.

What will you be doing?

Data plays a key role in our product – we derive valuable insights from vast proprietary data sets (with geographic, category, and merchant data covering 99.9% of all merchants in the United States). We are looking for a product-oriented data scientist passionate about using data to solve complex problems for our customers and team members. As a founding member of our data science team at Spade, you will have the opportunity to work on green-field data projects and play a substantial role in developing our product. You will:  

* Partner directly with product and engineers to identify opportunities within our data and develop new products for customers

* Develop language models to decipher cryptic transaction data and record matching systems for large scale places data* Help build and maintain data cleaning and quality platforms* Analyze large data sets using a variety of modeling techniques to surface meaningful insights and actionable opportunities for the business* Build the foundation for the data science team at Spade, helping to define systems and processes and grow the team

What experience, skills, and qualifications are necessary?

5+ years experience in data science and / or engineering

Familiarity with some or all of the following:

\*   Named entity resolution / record linking
\*   Working with location / maps / places data
\*   Machine learning techniques, specifically natural language processing

Advanced proficiency with Python
\

*

Experience working closely with product and engineering teams, and building products from 0→1

*

A desire to focus on customer needs and solve pressing problems

*

Nice to have: Fintech experience, experience with location (places) data, entity resolution, text search and matching

Salary Range:

* At Spade, we view total compensation as consisting of salary + equity + benefits. We recruit motivated and high performing talent, and work to compensate people in line with the value they bring to our team. 

* We aim to pay fairly and competitively, and consider a number of factors in developing compensation offers. These factors include years and breadth of experience, interview performance, market dynamics, and internal equity. * The anticipated cash salary range for this role is $140,000-$175,000, with an equity range of 0.3-0.6%.
