Job Description

We are looking for a mission-oriented Creative Director to lead a critical set of creative sprints. We aim to craft a cohesive brand for a reimagined portfolio of products. This is a hands-on leadership role with an opportunity to set the creative strategy and vision for our Square Staff workforce management suite: Labor Management, Payroll, and Team Communications. Our team’s mission is to tell the best possible stories about our products and ecosystem so that our sellers and their employees can thrive.

You will guide the team through a comprehensive website redesign, engage stakeholders to re-imagine a brand, develop a go-to-market strategy that helps the team meet objectives, and provide art direction for photography and videography work. You will be an inspirational leader for our newly formed creative team, guiding them to thoughtfully solve problems and find innovative ways to bring their ideas and stories to life.

You will originate new and substantive ideas that define a unique perspective for our go-to-market storytelling — you’re aware and avoid the oversaturated, obvious, and stereotypical tropes. You should be a self-starter, an empathetic people manager, a strategic problem solver, and an early adopter with tenacity and experience to move the team forward in the face of ambiguity.

You will lead our creative team to deeply understand audiences and harness trends and tactics. You will define and refine content, creative, positioning, and messaging that resonates. You'll be asked to connect dots, organize architecture, implement best practices, and develop plans to exceed our and customers’ expectations.

You will

  • Lead a 360 redesign of our digital product marketing experience across mobile, desktop, and related digital touchpoints.
  • Inspire our multidisciplinary team which includes both dedicated and shared resources such as copywriting, design, studio production, and web technology. Provide the vision for our next generation of outstanding art direction, photography direction, videography direction, design, typography & branding application direction.
  • Lead the go-to-market creative strategy for our new Square for Staff offering. Partner with executives and stakeholders to determine which customers to reach and formulate the overarching strategy, channels, and tone to best reach them.
  • Use data to inspire concepts, refine creative, and validate executions and ensure the work is the best it can be.
  • Raise the bar for quality in all executions. Oversee and, when needed, design concepts, style-frames, assets, and visual treatments.
  • Translate brand strategy into powerful and purposeful creative concepts. Leverage our new brand standards, identity, and design system to craft the next generation of creative across web, mobile, social, email, and out of home.
  • Build strong strategic partnerships with Product Marketing, Program and Project Management, Product Design, and Channel Partners.
  • Foster a safe, inclusive culture that motivates teams to achieve creative excellence.

Qualifications

  • 10+ years of relevant experience, 4+ in a similar leadership or management role.
  • A portfolio that showcases applicable digital product marketing and creative executions across Web, Mobile Web, Native, and Social.
  • Experience managing creatives while still advancing inidual goals
  • Experience pushing product marketing forward with fresh, evolving, creative ideas
  • Understanding of industry trends and today's creative landscape—how users engage with content, and trends within the marketing
  • Familiarity with new and traditional brand channels and media
  • Advanced design and art direction skills that cover multiple creative disciplines
  • Experience translating data and insights into meaningful creative strategies
  • Working knowledge/experience or interest in topics related to business, tech, financial, entrepreneurial communities, and culture both domestic and international
  • Experience partnering with internal teams and external partners / agencies.
  • Strong presentation, written, and verbal communication skills.

Company Description

Since we first opened our doors in 2009, the world of commerce has evolved immensely—and so has Square. After enabling anyone to take a payment and never miss a sale, we saw sellers stymied by disparate, outmoded products and tools that wouldn’t work together. So we expanded into software and started building integrated, omni-channel solutions—to help sellers run a busy store, deepen customer relationships, sell online, engage loyal buyers, and hire and pay staff.

Today, we’re a partner to sellers of all sizes—enterprise-scale businesses with complex commerce operations, sellers just starting out, and merchants who began selling with Square and have grown larger over time. As our sellers scale, so do our solutions. We all grow together.

There is a massive opportunity in front of us. We’re building a business that is big, meaningful, and lasting. And we are helping sellers around the world do the same.
