Learning Technology Specialist

Position summary
The Learning Technology Specialist provides ongoing enterprise support of NWEA’s internal learning platforms and helps lead efforts in the continuing development, implementation, and oversight of learning & development best practices throughout the organization. This position provides support to course builders regarding the creation and publishing of internal eLearning content, as well as designing eLearning courses as needed to support People & Culture efforts and our strategic priorities. The Learning Technology Specialist also provides data support and analytics for enterprise-wide learning metrics and reporting. This position reports to the Director, Learning & Development.

Responsibilities

  • Design, monitor, manage and support internal learning management systems (LMSs) and other learning platforms (including Docebo, LearnUpon, SharePoint, and LinkedIn Learning) to ensure smooth daily operation
  • Help create and maintain LMS configuration (user interface, business rules, reporting, etc.) with an attention to user experience
  • Document, track, and coordinate the enterprise learning catalog
  • Work with team leads, subject matter experts, and other key stakeholders; conduct research and apply knowledge of industry trends, and use multimedia and eLearning authoring tools to design effective learning experiences that advance our strategic initiatives
  • Intervene with teams who do not have a designated training function and create/publish/update eLearning courses based on team need
  • Maintain all People & Culture course materials and provide support related to version control
  • Work with Sr LMS Administrator, Business Technology team, and IT Services team to support LMS upgrades and the integration of the LMS with other enterprise applications (e.g., Active Directory, Ring Central, LinkedIn Learning, Paylocity)
  • Work with enterprise-wide course builders and trainers to “train the trainer” and certify competency in learning & development best practices and established standards to ensure consistent methodology in course design and delivery
  • Coordinate with the Internal Learning Council (ILC) to uphold the established ILC standards and processes across the enterprise
  • Work with enterprise-wide course builders and trainers to ensure proper setup for complex learning activities within the LMSs
  • Design learning plans at the enterprise and team level in both LearnUpon and Linkedin Learning
  • Support, develop and maintain strong vendor relationships to accomplish a variety of objectives, including escalation of critical issues and troubleshooting of critical learning platform functionality
  • Manage LMS functions which include monitoring course content, course approvals, and evaluation processes, ensuring processes are completed within given timeframes
  • Establish and maintain appropriate processes for tracking and certifying learning completions for compliance and accountability
  • Effectively integrate quality assurance feedback and evaluation into the ongoing revisions of L&D products and services

Skills and abilities

  • Knowledge of best practices for design (e.g., ADDIE/SAM/Agile) and publishing (e.g., SCORM compliance)
  • Deep understanding of the issues pertinent to content, curriculum, delivery modalities, and instruction as they relate to professional learning & development
  • Comprehensive knowledge and demonstrated ability to employ a variety of instructional design tools and interactive training and presentation tools to create engaging eLearning experiences
  • Demonstrated skill in administering and supporting eLearning systems, LMSs, and other web-based applications
  • Knowledge of principles and practices of learning & development, particularly adult learning theory
  • Capability of understanding of data integration and its related processes
  • Demonstrated attention to detail
  • Ability to organize time effectively, determine priorities, and move work forward independently
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate with cross-functional team members
  • Demonstrated verbal and written communication (including the ability to explain technical concepts in non-technical terms and document business processes to both non-technical and technical audiences

Education and experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Learning & Development, or related field, or equivalent experience
  • Minimum of 2 years hands-on experience with supporting eLearning platforms or similar systems
  • Enterprise business system implementation experience
  • Experience with eLearning authoring technology with a variety of tools
  • Experience with SharePoint 365 is strongly preferred
