Data Foundations Team Lead

at Datavant

Remote, United States

Datavant is a rapidly growing healthcare technology company with a mission to connect the world’s health data. By eliminating data silos in the healthcare industry, we aim to unlock opportunities to accelerate medical research, and help organizations design better ways to facilitate access, affordability, and quality of care leading to better patient outcomes.

By joining Datavant today, you’re stepping onto a highly collaborative, fully remote team that is passionate about creating transformative change in healthcare. We look for people who are smart, nice and get things done. We invest in our people and believe in hiring for high-potential and humble iniduals who can rapidly grow their responsibilities as the company scales. Datavant is a distributed, remote-first team (no office locations) and we empower Datavanters to shape their working environment in a way that suits their needs — learn more here!

Datavant is seeking a passionate, data integrity focused, process driven, positively engaged expert to lead and build out the Data Foundation Ops Team. Our newest team member will enable and support the data integrity of patient and provider data across organizations. This inidual will validate, maintain, and recommend process improvements with various technical approaches to feed Datavant’s industry leading medical record retrieval and release of information businesses, creating a unique asset mapping tool for all US healthcare providers. This role will report to and will collaborate closely with the VP of Data Foundation and will be a founding member of the Data Foundation Ops team.

You Will:

  • Set the vision for how Data Foundation processes should work and will collaborate with the VP of Data Foundation to create the bridge between current and future state by outlining a path forward.
  • Create and cultivate an empowered team through hiring and people management to create and support cross-functional and external success for the Datavant team and its customers.
  • Measure impact by obsessing over the problems we are solving
  • Leverage your data analysis to recommend where impact will be felt the most and use this to determine prioritization and scoping.
  • Voice great ideas that provide clarity and motivation for what we need to keep processes accurate and efficient.
  • Be the expert on current data management processes.
  • Ensure successful delivery by working closely with customer success, operations, product and engineering teams to see the vision realized.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders, partners and others, to ensure the data we receive is quality and well formatted for ingestion + creating programs and working with others to make improvements + documenting “playbooks” for how certain processes work.
  • Support the VP in defining the toolset needed to review the database, make improvements and process suggested changes from throughout the organization
  • Partner with data science on queries related to any data we bring in from the outside world. Find and vet new sources of data (such as public data on NPIs, provider taxonomy), etc.

What You’ll Bring to the Table:

  • You fixate over data integrity and look for ways to maintain and improve processes around the data management.
  • You have deep experience with data analysis in Excel, SQL. You live and breathe pivot tables, VLOOKUPs, fancy formulas and finding ways to check your work.
  • You obsess over customer satisfaction and enjoy interacting with and getting product feedback from customers early and often.
  • You are a great communicator and have the confidence to lead planning meetings with anyone or any group within the company. You can explain strategies, rationales and products in terms that each audience can understand.
  • You are highly organized and have strong project management skills: others are confident in a project’s outcome when they know you’re owning it.
  • You have high bandwidth and high productivity: others wonder where you find time to do all you do. Your secret is that you are quick to understand, formulate, and respond.
  • You lead with empathy and you always put yourself in other’s positions and understand their motivations, needs, perspectives and potential points of confusion.
  • You are proactive and you define how the product should evolve and have a bias to action.
  • You have a relentless drive for continuous improvement.

Bonus Points, if you:

  • Have experience with SQL and/or other tools for manipulating large and complex data sets

We are committed to building a erse team of Datavanters who are smart, nice, and get things done where every Datavanter is empowered to bring their authentic self to their work. We are all responsible for stewarding a high-performance culture in which all Datavanters belong and thrive. We are proud to be an equal opportunity employer and welcome applications from people of all backgrounds and experiences.

Our compensation philosophy is to be externally competitive, internally fair, and not win or lose on compensation. Salary ranges are developed with the support of benchmarks (competitive San Francisco rates for US-based roles) and industry best practices.

We’re building a high-growth, high-autonomy culture. We rely less on job titles and more on cultivating an environment where anyone can contribute, the best ideas win, and personal growth is driven by expanding impact and less by title. This means we default to simple job titles (e.g., Software Engineer) rather than complex ones (e.g., Senior Software Engineer). The range posted is for a given job title, which can include multiple levels. Inidual rates for the same job title may differ based on their level, responsibilities, skills, and experience for a specific job. The estimated salary range for this role is $150,000 – $215,000.

Even though this is a remote role, you may need to travel onsite. To ensure the safety of patients and staff, many of our clients require post-offer health screenings and proof and/or completion of various vaccinations such as the flu shot, Tdap, COVID-19, etc. Any requests to be exempted from these requirements will be reviewed by Datavant Human Resources and determined on a case-by-case basis. Depending on the state in which you will be working, exemptions may be available on the basis of disability, medical contraindications to the vaccine or any of its components, pregnancy or pregnancy-related medical conditions, and/or religion.

At the end of this application, you will find a set of voluntary demographic questions. If you choose to respond, your responses will be used to help us identify areas of improvement in our recruitment process. We can only see aggregate responses and are unable to view inidual responses. In fact, we aren’t even able to see if you’ve responded or not! Responding is your choice and it will not be used in any way in our hiring process.
