Junior Litigation Paralegal

Job Description

The Junior Litigation Paralegal provides support to the Director of Claims and Litigation to assist attorneys in conducting pre-claim investigation, gathering documents for production in discovery, and calendaring key deadlines.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Analyzes discovery requests pertaining to personal injury product and premises litigation; assists Director of Claims and Litigation and outside litigation defense counsel with gathering information in response to requests for the production of documents/business records and interrogatories
  • Create and maintain calendars of response deadlines pertaining to personal injury and premises litigation and demand letters; ensure timely responses by Director of Claims and Litigation
  • Identifies and contacts iniduals who may have responsive documents/information, searching their files (including electronic files) and reviews/analyzes documents to make privilege, confidentiality and relevance determinations prior to provision to outside counsel for potential production; conduct electronic searches of internal documents
  • Provide support to ensure timely execution of affidavits, declarations and discovery verifications
  • Respond to inquiry requests and locate documents and materials requested by outside counsel, paralegals and expert witnesses
  • Respond to customer complaints as needed, including negotiating resolution with claimants as appropriate
  • Responsible for timely execution of settlement agreements and payment of settlement fees
  • Create and maintain databases pertaining to personal injury and premises claims and litigation

Requirements

Education (Required)

  • Associates degree or some college required, Bachelors Degree in related field preferred or equivalent combination of experience and education;
  • Paralegal Certification required

Skills (Required)

  • Specific Systems – Must have excellent PC skills including knowledge of MS Word, Excel
  • Knowledge of Clearwell eDiscovery software or equivalent preferred
  • Special Skills Needed – Must have ability to organize, prioritize and schedule work effectively; must have good judgment and decision-making skills; must be able to maintain a high level of confidentiality in the work performed
  • Must have strong ability to interact with junior and senior level corporate personnel, vendors, and outside counsel
  • Must be able to handle multiple tasks and have the ability to work well under time constraints, in a fast-paced environment
  • Must be able to work independently and as part of a team, be highly motivated, show initiative and be a “self-starter”
  • Must be able to communicate effectively and tactfully with all levels of personnel, vendors, customers, and outside counsel in person, telephonically and by email
  • Must have working experience in effective written communication, including drafting correspondence relating to litigation matters, as well as general business and legal affairs
  • Must be able to pay close attention to detail and understand written and oral instructions

Experience (Required)

The anticipated salary range for this position is $53,600 – $80,400 depending on location, knowledge, skills, education and experience. This position is also eligible for an annual discretionary bonus. In addition, we offer comprehensive and competitive benefits to Associates (and their families) such as medical, dental, vision, life insurance, short-term and long-term disability. Eligible Associates are able to enroll in our company’s 401k plan. Associates will accrue paid time off up to 236 hours per year (inclusive of PTO, floating holidays, and paid holidays). Paid sick time up to 80 hours per year unless otherwise required by law.
