Main Purpose of Job
We are looking for a Data Engineer focusing on our Information Assurance offering. The Data Engineer will be responsible for project implementations based on solution design specifications and in accordance to our blueprint, standards and procedures. You will support our clients in their cloud migration journey as well as work toward identifying opportunities to solve complex data problems within the African markets and potentially beyond. The ideal candidate will have a keen interest in Big Data and Data Warehousing projects and Information Management as well as a good understanding of IM related configuration (SQL) and communication protocols.
You will be part of a passionate team as we undergo our agile transformation, focused on building a footprint as we expand our Big Data offering to new and prospective clients. You should be well versed in current and upcoming data tools and technologies. You should have a go-getter attitude and be willing to learn at all times. You should have the ability to effectively translate system requirements into technical requirements for the team. As the Data Engineer, you will be required to interpret and analyze data to perform solutions design. You will also have a large say in the roadmap going forward and how we approach it as we design our roadmaps from within the team.
Main Responsibilities
- Develop, construct, test and maintain data pipelines, Big Data platforms, Data Warehouses, and architectures
- Align architecture with business requirements
- Develop data set processes
- Identify ways to improve data reliability, efficiency and quality
- Conduct research for industry and business requirements
- Use Big Data sets to address product and business issues
- Prepare data for predictive and prescriptive modelling
- Identify hidden patterns using data
- Use data to determine tasks that can be automated
- In-depth Investigation of complex discrepancies and irregularities that arise from SLA reports and client escalations
- Report on all issues investigated to both client and internally
- Implement Projects and assigned task work within agreed timelines
- Conduct Interconnect Billing activities including loading of rate sheets
- Set-up and design of new reports and ad-hoc reports
- Assisting clients with ad hoc queries and requests in a timely manner
- Assist with daily reviews for clients, adhering to SLA timelines and escalating issues that may arise
- Mentor junior and other team members. Support efforts to cross-train staff to ensure proper redundancy and growth opportunities
- Tool maintenance (Data classification maintenance; maintaining existing reports; reference data maintenance, configurations, Record level matches)
- Review quality of monthly value-add reporting and ensure timely submission thereof

Qualifications and Experience
- 5 Years SQL and ETL experience
- 2 – 4 Years Big Data and AWS experience
- 2 – 4 Years Data Engineering and Information Systems experience
- Machine Learning exposure advantageous
- Tertiary qualification
- Experience in the following would be an advantage:
o Experience with BI and/or Data Engineering tools
o Knowledge of relational database and stored procedures
- Academic background in foundations of Data Engineering: Statistics, Mathematical modelling
