Title: Business Intelligence Analyst

Location: San Francisco, CA or Remote (Based in the U.S.)

Nerdwallet is seeking an experienced, independent, data-driven and analytical professional for our Business Intelligence team. You will provide technical expertise to help unlock the power of self-serve data through our Looker BI platform. Successful candidates will partner with our Analytics and Data Engineering colleagues to democratize NerdWallet data and empower advanced data exploration. Ideal candidates will be technically savvy, collaborative, business-minded, and interested in supporting our company’s mission to provide clarity for all of life’s financial decisions!

If you were here 6 months ago, here are some things you might have worked on:

  • Drive performance improvement in Looker to provide elite user experience.
  • Develop measurement and automated reporting for Lifetime Revenue’ of Nerdwallet users.
  • Collaborate with Data Engineering partners to develop new data models and tables.

Where you can make an impact:

  • Provide Looker & BI expertise for the build-out of NerdWallet’s growing Business Intelligence needs.
  • Collaborate with the broader Analytics team to understand our business strategies and associated metrics.
  • Deliver complex enterprise level BI and analytical solutions independently; create re-usable semantic layers for self-serve reporting.
  • Ensure effective requirements communication to Data Engineering and collaborate on determining timelines.
  • Author clear and detailed functional specifications and documentation.
  • Encourage self-service reporting by building and maintaining the tools needed for it.
  • Develop dashboards, reports, training, style guides, access controls, and SQL/LookML code reviews.

  • Positive and adaptable: You demonstrate flexibility and constructive demeanor in face of shifting business needs and personal responsibilities.

Your experience:

We recognize not everyone will meet all of the criteria. If you meet most of the criteria below and you’re excited about the opportunity and willing to learn, we’d love to hear from you.

  • 5+ years of professional experience in BI or a Technology centric field working on complex technical projects.
  • SQL expert, proficient in handling big data (experience with Python or other scripting languages is a plus).
  • Hands-on experience with data visualization and BI tool(s) required (Looker, Mode preferred. Tableau, Power-BI, Qlikview, Microstrategy or similar tools are beneficial)
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to explain complex analyses to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Experience with cloud databases (Amazon Redshift, GBQ, Snowflake is preferred).
  • Experience using Airflow, DBT or similar BI/analytics workflow tools.
  • Experience with data modeling is a plus.
  • Proficiency in authoring functional specifications and business requirements. Familiarity with Scrum and agile methodologies is a plus.
  • Experience in Amplitude or similar web analytics tools.
  • BA/BS degree, Masters a plus – preferably in a quantitative field like Engineering, Math, Statistics or Economics.
