Main purpose of job

The Graphic Designers are responsible for developing and building content with consistent branding across all Scottish Opera communication materials for audiences, education, outreach, fundraising and corporate. This involves creative thinking, building briefs to be able to achieve the best outcome, being open to critical feedback and being bold and willing to try new ideas.

Key areas of responsibility

▪ Through collaboration, discussion and creative thinking with marketing and communication colleagues, as well as with production designers, develop and finalise briefs for creative concepts

▪ Present and explain design rationale to colleagues through clear communications and be open to receiving constructive feedback

▪ Act as brand guardian, to ensure the Scottish Opera brand identity is consistently carried across all artwork – including new and pre-existing templates

▪ Design and produce animated and still marketing materials, incorporating video footage where possible, on a range of assets including large format, posters, adverts, campaign and social media assets, events collateral, digital assets for schools, merchandise, infographics, website, company magazine and e-news assets. Outdoor signage, livery branding and exhibition materials within the Theatre Royal Glasgow are also required on an ad-hoc basis

▪ Work with external illustrators, photographers, and film makers

▪ Seek to continuously improve efficiency and effectiveness of design work, particularly in art working and asset management

▪ Manage print, photography, and image libraries contacts, ensuring best value is achieved through liaising and negotiating with suppliers

▪ Engage on a multitude of simultaneous projects with various teams across the organisation, including with opera Directors and Designers, as well as with other creative teams across the organisation including prop making, costume making, scenic design and workshop

Administration and Support

▪ Be a proactive team player through regular meetings and manage workflow against business priorities, using e.g. Trello and Slack for internal management and communications

▪ Schedule and attend in-person meetings at Scottish Opera sites across Glasgow ▪ Work to agreed timescales, provide costs and within agreed budget

▪ Ensure that best value is achieved in procurement of goods and services, and maintain accurate records of expenditure

▪ Manage file storage ensuring all design related files are suitably stored and backed up, with historical archive being protected

▪ Remain acquainted with latest technology and trends in graphics, motion graphics, digital manipulation, and print ▪ Adhere to the Company’s confidentiality policy
