Position Summary

The Senior User Interface Designer is a senior role within the UI/UX Job Family focusing on delivering best-in-class user experiences for our internal and external users.  This position plays an instrumental role in the technical components of the UI/UX Designs, ensuring the smooth user experiences can easily be translated into technical code and capabilities.  This role serves as a senior technical role, able to translate complex designs and concepts into streamlined designs and capabilities.  As a Senior User Interface Designer, you will be viewed as a subject matter expert and specialist in this field.

As a Senior Digital Designer, you will be a key member of our innovative, nascent design team. In this role, you will be working closely with a cross-functional team of developers, product managers, and customer experience specialists to design digital systems and products that meet the evolving needs of our customers. You will have the opportunity to lead the design direction for a variety of exciting projects and bring your creative vision to life. From developing user-centered websites and mobile apps, to formalizing design systems and component libraries, you will be at the forefront of shaping the way we educate, motivate, inform, and deliver on our customer-centered values. Your work will have a significant impact on the success of our products and our ability to deliver exceptional customer experiences.

Primary Qualifications

  • Experience and knowledge of UX principles, methodologies, and design best practices.  This includes user centered design and accessibility standards.

  • Creates wireframes, design specifications, prototypes, and user flow diagrams that articulate complex user journeys across multiple webpages, touchpoints, and platforms.

  • Experience converting complex business processes into simple, logical, easy to use systems and skilled in page design, organization, and structure of content.

  • Works alongside product and development team to define user requirements.

  • Ensures design standards and guidelines are maintained and shared with development teams to guide product design.

  • Professional level knowledge of industry-standard design software (Figma, Adobe Creative Suites)

  • Experience in responsive frontend development (HTML, CSS, Sass, etc.) and frameworks/libraries or design systems (Material Design, etc.).

  • Sufficient understanding of project management approaches, tools and phases of the delivery lifecycle (Scrum, Kanban, Lean) and experience in JIRA, Confluence, or equivalent documentation tools.

  • Strong active listening and collaboration skills.

  • Ability to influence others and move toward a common vision or goal.

  • Must be a team player and able to work collaboratively with and through others.

 Desired Skills

  • 4+ years recent experience in visual design craftsmanship, combined with a keen ability to anticipate and address user needs. 

  • Help teams apply usability and design processes and tools in support of projects and initiatives.

  • Effective problem solver with demonstrated ability to develop creative solutions that are both functional and visually appealing.

  • Experience with both public facing and internally facing web applications.

  • Flexible and adaptable; able to work in ambiguous situations.

  • Resilient and tenacious with a propensity to persevere.

  • Ability to engage with others to cultivate an environment of learning and constructive collaboration.

  • Ability to prioritize and manage work, adhering to critical project timelines.

  • Problem solving and root cause identification skills.

  • Superior relationship-building with a strong and approachable communication style to work effectively within cross functional teams and with all levels of the organization.

  • Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal.

  • Advocate and evangelize user centered design and research best practices.

  • Conduct end to end design reviews with project teams.

  • Consider existing insights, technical constraints, business needs, and specific platform demands to produce user centered, data driven, and design focused solutions.

  • Play an active role in partnering with cross-functional team members in leading cohesive design standards and best practices across the enterprise.

  • Mentor and coach Team Members on usability and design best practices.

  • Create and provide tools that help guide teams on their journey to usable and intuitive design.
