We approach challenges with resiliency and creativity, while encouraging transparency because, no matter our backgrounds or responsibilities, we are one team.About the RoleWe are looking for a qualified Sr. Engineering Manager to join and lead our Fleet Management Portal experience team in San Diego, CA (or remote). As part of the Portal Experience team, you will be responsible for applications managing the information flow and product growth of our driver applications and back-office portal, creating a seamless experience. In this role, you will lead a cross-functional team focused on delivering the strategic product roadmap of our industry-leading Fleet Management solution, unifying the data derived from driver activity with back office insights, streamlining customer experience as we expand into other verticals, and managing engineers to deliver excellence.Our stack is wide, erse, and evolving. As an Engineering Manager, you are eager to lead and mentor teams working in multiple languages and frameworks, and contribute to future architecture decisions. You are versed in Agile/Scrum methodologies and are comfortable with giving and taking technical direction.Our primary business logic is currently PHP/Laravel and transitioning to Node services using containerized or serverless architectures. Our web front ends utilize Vue. Some teams leverage Typescript and Go. Finally, many of our APIs interact with Android clients, so any mobile development experience and knowledge of modern Android frameworks you have is a plus.Essential Responsibilities* Manage the technical execution of the Portal Experience team’s product roadmap* Directly supervise a cross-functional software development team* Lead the team in incident response* Help monitor & support existing legacy applications* Create & maintain documentation of key technical systems* Represent technical initiatives to the business and customersExperience* 5+ years managing full stack and/or mobile engineering teams* 7+ years of experience as a full stack or mobile software engineer* Experience creating and/or improving development processes while reducing developer toil, and improving adherence to those processes* Experience working with: Node, PHP, JavaScript, HTML, CSS and/or Java, Kotlin* Experience with MySQL and/or Postgres* API Design and Integration experience (REST or GQL)* Database design experience, with understanding of various ORMs such as Eloquent* A solid portfolio of experience building web services/APIs for mobile or other server side applications* Good technical foundation with ability to pick up new skills and adapt quickly* Strong emotional intelligence and the ability to build trust while acting as a servant leader* A commitment to software craftsmanship and best practices in unit testing, code review, design patterns, etc* Experience building strong relationships with Product leaders and other stakeholders to ensure your team has clear vision* The ability to review code, coach, and mentor engineers on your team* Experience supporting and contributing to the recruiting and hiring of awesome engineers* Proven success in on-boarding and training new engineers* A passion for building, developing, and coaching high-performing engineering teams* A relentless bulldozer to any roadblocks preventing your team from achieving its goals* Preferred Qualifications:* Telematics industry experience* Geospatial and mapping experience* Experience building shared front-end components* Laravel experience* Vue.js experience* Cloud native development in to AWS* System Architecture Design* Event driven architectures* CI/CD* Working expertise on a variety of datastores- MySQL, Timescale, ElasticSearch, etcPlatform Science Benefits HighlightsThe company offers various benefits to regular, full-time employees including: Medical, dental, and vision insuranceShort-term and long-term disability insurancesAD&D and life insurance401k planPaid vacation, sick leave and holidaysSix weeks of paid parental leaveFor more information please see the Benefits Highlights brochure for regular, full-time employees.In addition, you can access the Benefit Highlights brochure for regular, full-time employees by copying and pasting the link into your browser: https://www.platformscience.com/benefits.This is an exempt role. Our job titles for each posting may span across more than one job level. The estimated base salary for this role is between $174,750 and $245,700. The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target range for new hire base salaries across all US locations. Compensation packages are based on many factors unique to each candidate, including but not limited to skill set, work experience, relevant trainings and certifications, business needs, market demands and specific geographical location. The base pay range is subject to change and may be modified in the future.
