Overview of the B2B Data team

The mission of the B2B Data team at Zego is to leverage novel data sources and modern computational tools to deliver value through data-driven insights for Business to Business insurance products. It is a growing team, responsible for all the aspects related to data, including data sourcing, cleaning, extraction, problem formulation, implementing and testing models, productionising new exciting tools and algorithms and designing scalable tools, practices, and systems to support data science analysis and deployment. The team partners closely with Product, Engineering, Risk Management and wider Commercial and Business functions to find the best ways to incorporate statistical models and evidence-based decision making into Zego’s products and processes.

Purpose of the Data Scientist:

Our Data Science team is looking for an ambitious and experienced Data Scientist to join their growing team to help work on the development of insurance risk models.

The Data Scientist will be working closely with Data Scientists, Engineers and Risk Managers to improve Zego’s risk identification and selection capabilities. The Data Scientist will play an integral role in researching, testing and deploying new models and powering Zego’s risk strategies through data-driven insights and evidence-based decision-making. Therefore experience working as a Data Scientist and using Python, and SQL along with an understanding of good development practices (git, code review, documentation) is essential.

The Data Scientist will also be working on projects involving data acquisition, risk management, behavioural modelling, actuarial risk assessment, thus offering a wide range of exposure and plenty of chances to develop as a data professional. In doing so we will be given the support and backing needed to develop your skills, including on the job training, L&D budget, and a personal career development plan.

This is a great opportunity for an experienced Data Scientist who would like more variety in their role, wants to leverage novel sources of behavioural data and state-of-the-art machine learning techniques and importantly would like to fashion a strong career in data with a company that is disruptive and who likes to do things a little differently.

What you’ll be working on as Data Scientist:

• You will e into the heart of Zego R&D efforts and help to build market leading behavioural and risk models
• You will work closely with the Senior members of the Data team to design, develop, deploy and maintain industry leading statistical and machine learning models
• You will work with various types and erse datasets, including claims, driver behaviour, shift and trip information, traffic, weather, telemetry, geospatial data, web and smartphone sensors
• You will contribute to improving Zego’s understanding how driver behaviour relates to actuarial risk and how Zego’s can leverage the insights to disrupt the way the industry currently operates
• You will work with the team Data Engineers and Analysts to action the models and insights produced by Data Science

What you will need to be successful as a Data Scientist:

• You have a BSc/BA in Mathematics, Statistics, Engineering, Computer Science or similarly quantitative disciplines
• Experience working as a Data Scientist is a must
• You are proficient working with and querying structured data using SQL
• Experience using Python applied to data analysis and Machine Learning
• You are familiar with common statistical tools and methods, such as Hypothesis Testing, Generalised Linear Models (GLMs)
• You are familiar with modern programming techniques and practices
