What You’ll Be Doing in the role of VP, Information Technology, Systems & Service

The Vice President of Information Technology, Systems & Services (ITS&S) will be responsible for the planning, implementation and administration of the development and use of technology throughout Susan G Komen (Komen), working closely with Komen staff to assess user needs. This position will report to the Vice President, Business Intelligence, Platform and Engineering. Areas of responsibility include the full range of information systems and services which incorporates the technology, people and processes involved with business systems; as well as information technology encompassing the computers, storage, networking and other physical devices, infrastructure and processes to create, process, store, secure and exchange all forms of information, or data.

The ideal candidate is an experienced technology professional comfortable managing highly technical teams while focusing on the strategic impact and mission of our organization. A candidate must be a passionate advocate for how technology can advance our organization’s mission and supporting fundraising and operational goals, have the communication skills to build support for that vision, and have a proven track record of leading teams to deliver results. Principal working relationships include leadership Teams, department heads as well vendors, consultants, and all system users.

Internal Advisor and Strategic Partner

  • Cultivate strong and effective relationships with stakeholders through proactive communication and being an active partner for improving business systems and services.
  • Create a culture of inclusion and communication so that the needs of all staff at all levels impact the IT strategy, roadmap, and tool selection.
  • Create and maintain a good working relationship with other peer organizations within and outside of philanthropic sector.
  • Develop strong relationships with IT service providers with an eye to service levels and cost management.
  • Research, recommend, and implement improvements and best practices to maximize Komen’s technological capacities in order to achieve both fundraising and operational efficiencies and effectiveness.

Strategy and Leadership:

  • Create a strategy, vision, and roadmap that aligns with the forward-looking operational vision for the Foundation.
  • Develop an architecture to define a standardized set of technologies for applications, processes, and devices, including cloud migration.
  • Create a highly effective and user-friendly digital workplace with a standard set of platforms, tools, and devices for collaboration and employee productivity.
  • Responsible for the design, development and implementation of Komen’s information systems, web properties, software applications, various channels of Komen’s support and infrastructure systems.
  • Work collaboratively across the organization to ensure systems are optimized and maintained with the latest updates to provide end users the data integrity, data security, and ease of use.
  • Define a change management process both for IT-related system changes, as well as business processes.
  • Develop a technology strategy for an evolving workplace that supports staff in a remote working environment.
  • Working with the VP Platform Engineering and BI and general counsel, develop a robust information security strategy and program.
  • Keep current and knowledgeable about emerging technologies trends that would benefit Komen.

Management:

  • Ensure a high-performing IT organization that aligns with other Komen departments.
  • Lead, manage, and develop an efficient and highly competent technology team who serves as valuable business partners to the management and colleagues throughout Komen.
  • Ensure all positions, new or existing, within the IT organization structure foster growth with an emphasis on professional development and employee retention.
  • Ensure the IT organization embodies the Komen vision, mission, values and behaviors and commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI).

Strategic Implementation:

  • Budget management, project prioritization, research and recommendation of new systems/software products and services.
  • Negotiate, develop, and manage all IT vendors, and outsourcing arrangements. Work with Human Resources for contract employee needs.
  • Identify and analyze emerging information technologies which support Komen’s long-term strategic goals. The Vice President of ITS&S will integrate these important new technologies skillfully while providing strong direction and leadership to develop teams.
  • Working with the VP, BI, Platform & Engineering; prepare and manage annual goals and objectives that ensure department’s ability to deliver on its objectives.
  • Ensure modern delivery, including agile development and product management.
  • Provide an analytical mindset, to define and execute on a data strategy.
  • Lead, define, and develop enterprise data analytics capabilities.
  • Ensure all security standards are annually reviewed, audited, and vetted with organizational leaders.
  • Ensure compliance with data privacy standards for organization-wide data, proprietary information, and related intellectual property through information security and access management.
  • Oversee systems development and implementation across the organization, ensuring platforms and systems are meeting all users’ needs.
  • Ensure that the organization has strong systems analysis and project management skills, so commitments are properly planned, staffed, implemented, monitored, and executed.
  • Oversee IT finances, including ongoing purchases, to ensure spending trends are within the annual budget forecast.
  • Optimize costs and look for opportunities for continuous improvement of operations.
  • Responsible for Komen’s disaster recovery plans as it pertains to Komen’s Data and other Komen functions.

In addition, the VP ITS&S will demonstrate:

  • Demonstrated track record in building/transforming IT, developing digital strategy, and creating IT vision/roadmap. Demonstrated ability to drive strategic concepts to execution.
  • Proven ability enabling business success through the appropriate use of IT.
  • Understanding of the theory and practice of:
    • Information technology infrastructure management
    • Data analytics and visualization
    • Data strategy and management
    • Information security
    • Privacy regulations and policy
  • Demonstrated business-partner mentality with a track record of building strong, trusting, and collaborative relationships. Ability to maintain a calm and competent demeanor amid changing demands and priorities.
  • Experience defining and supporting an evolving remote and geographically dispersed work environment.
  • A track record of providing digital workplace tools and solutions to enhance staff productivity and ease of work.
  • Very strong communication skills and a track record of building a culture of transparency and business partnership.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills. Ability to communicate easily and effectively with technical and non-technical audiences, including staff, scientists, and researchers
  • A data analytics viewpoint and ability to build an impactful data strategy.
  • A track record of building strong relationships across the organization and with our vendor partners.
  • A commitment to cybersecurity and experience developing and leading a robust cyber program.
  • Ability to create a cloud-enabled infrastructure and lead the team in a cloud migration.
  • A background in nonprofit, health care, academia, or related is a plus.
  • The ability to understand and articulate the Komen’s mission and work to many audiences.

Minimum Qualifications

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in computer science/information technology from an accredited college or university is preferred.
  • Fifteen years or more of progressive IT experience (including experience in a multi-office environment) with at least 5 years of management experience are also required.
  • Experience in SALESFORCE, BLACKBAUD, PEOPLESOFT, Azure Cloud, ADP, JIRA, and ASANA, is preferred.
  • Experience working with a non-profit organization is preferred.
  • A demonstrated ability to lead a team of technical staff through process changes while working with Komen’s Leadership Team is a must.
  • Demonstrated customer service mindset.
  • The management of multiple concurrent projects while supporting a decentralized network of users is required.
  • Experience managing large data sets, managing data at scale
  • Excellent verbal and communication skills with all levels of staff, vendors and clients to establish productive relationships is a necessity.
  • Must possess the ability to meet deadlines, to conduct research into IT issues and products, and to take initiative in the development and completion of projects.
  • Extensive project management, organizational and time management skills will be needed.
  • This position also requires excellent problem-solving, analytical and evaluation skills.
