- Love deploying well-tested and effective code to production.
- Enjoy working on a mix of new projects and improvements to existing features.
Some understanding or experience in social media management and/or social networks (from a business users' perspective or their API) is highly desirable but not essential.

🚀 ABOUT PIXELLU
At Pixellu, we know professional photographers are frustrated with all of the tedious work required to run a successful photography business. Many get so overwhelmed, they end up quitting on their dream of having a photography career. That is why we create easy-to-use, time-saving software that takes the work out of running a photography business so photographers can get back to doing what they love, creating art.
Pixellu was co-founded in 2010 by two wedding photographers. Faced with the challenges of long hours and endless tasks, we began asking ourselves, “How can we save valuable time, make more money, and get our lives back?” Our answer was technology. We started Pixellu with the idea that we could make money by providing an honest service that helped photographers save time and live more fulfilling lives. We believed that, by focusing on a great product and great service, we could build a business that not only does good, but also does well. Today, we are a team of 35 team members spread across 15 countries, serving tens of thousands of photographers in over 100 countries. Our vision is for Pixellu to become the foundation of more than 1 million successful photography businesses, so that photographers can focus on doing what they love while we automate the rest of their work. We’re now looking for a Front-end Product Developer to help move our vision forward primarily in ClojureScript!
You will be working in one of our product teams, alongside a PM, Designer, and other Developers

A growth mindset is important to us, we imagine you have basic knowledge of Clojurescript and a healthy motivation to learn and grow, not only within Clojurescript but also in product, users, and business knowledge.
Our front-end stack is Cljs, Reframe, Reagent, among others. Our back-end stack is Clojure, Postgres, Redis, ECS, and is AWS based.
Day-to-day work
At Whimsical you can expect your day-to-day to include:
- Scoping, understanding, and implementing features: Your primary task would be to work with other teammates to figure out the best way to take a Shape Up pitch from idea to deployment within the cycle.
- Support our customers: We have awesome customers, and supporting them often includes getting some help from the person that implemented the particular feature a customer is having issues with.
- Support the team: Review pull requests, refactor code, help with both technical and non-technical issues, and in general help each of us end the day better than when we woke up.
- Potentially taking on-call duties in your time zone: We try to take advantage of the fact that we're a small, geographically distributed team by delegating the first-responder duties to the people who are awake at that particular moment.

- European Union 🇪🇺
- United Kingdom 🇬🇧
- Relevant work experience and track record
- Submitted resume
- Thoughtful, thorough responses to all the application questions.
Benefits
- 100% Remote: Our team is spread across North America, Europe and Oceania, and we’ve got you covered if you prefer to work from a coworking space.
- Salary: Annual salary at $94,000 - $118,000, based on experience
- Vacation: 6 weeks of paid time off each year
- Parental Leave: 16 weeks paid by company
- Equipment: We provide all the tech you need to work successfully
- Summits: We try to bring everyone together at least twice a year, our next summit will be in Riga in July 2023
How we work
We use an adapted version of Basecamp's Shape Up approach, which for us means:
- We work in cycles of 5 weeks of focused work and 1 week of cool down.
- Each cycle sees one or more "bets" shipped, each having very specific and well defined requirements in addition to engineering sustainability work, and bugs.
- During cool down, each of us choose what we want to work on, be it bugs, minor features, tech debt, exploring new concepts, or personal projects facilitated using our professional growth framework.
- Each of us can create an "idea pitch" for an upcoming cycle, and move our ideas along to eventually transform into bets and product features.
As a front-end product developer at Whimsical, you will be helping to shape both the visual presentation and user experience at Whimsical by working on our collaboration tools using Canvas, improving our custom text-editor, and contributing to other user-facing features. You’ll be responsible for continually delighting our users with best-in-class thinking tools.
In addition to Shape Up, we also occasionally roll up our sleeves and do customer support to better understand our users and their needs, regardless of our role within the company.
Our primary mode of operation is asynchronous. We use real-time communication with great care, and only where it makes sense. We use Whimsical, email, Slack, and Zoom for our day-to-day communication.
But we also believe in spending quality time together, which is why we try to bring everyone from around the world together at least twice a year for what we call "Whimsical Summits". At Summits, we focus on getting to know each other better and building bonds that help us communicate better when we're apart.
About Whimsical
Whimsical was founded in 2017 by Kaspars Dancis and Steve Schoeffel to help people think and collaborate in the digital-first work environment.
Whimsical's product is expressive, fast, and delightful. We believe that software should spark joy, not dread.
We are a remote-first company and big proponents of remote work because it democratizes the opportunities for people everywhere.
Our operating philosophy is based on set of core principles, such as:
- Sustainability: We don't believe in growth at all costs. Growth is a fundamental part of a healthy existence but we want it to be in balance with sustainability and bounded by ethical behavior. We strive to work calm, 40-hour work weeks. Whimsical is also committed to doing our part towards sustainable future for the planet.
- Craftsmanship: We care deeply about our work. We are specialists, eager learners, and persistent in our pursuit of quality work. We're patient and committed because building great things takes time.
- Long-term focus: We're building Whimsical for the long-haul, not a quick exit. We avoid shortcuts and consider every key decision from a 10+ year perspective.
- Partnership Mindset: We’ve built the company around the idea that everybody who joins us should feel like they are partners in the business. Time is precious and we want Whimsical to be the place where people invest their time rather than sell it. Our equity offers are 100% transparent and above market average. We also pay everyone at the same level the same salary, no matter where they live.

Our team**Aha! engineering is a mid-sized, fully remote team that is highly productive. We are centered around North American time zones so we can collaborate during the workday.
- We help each other grow: We each bring unique skills to the table and want our teammates to feel valued from the start. Our onboarding program exposes new hires to the codebase and lets them contribute right away.
- We move quickly: We ship code multiple times a day. We believe in getting valuable features in front of customers and iteratively improving as we learn what works and what does not.
- We value product over process: We want the team to have the time and focus on solving complex challenges. We minimize the overhead by setting clear goals and avoiding heavyweight processes and excessive meetings.
- We share knowledge freely: We share our learnings with each other and with the developer community. Our engineering blog demonstrates how we tackle interesting challenges at Aha!
- We enjoy: We like what we do. And we want you to love your team and your job too. Learn more about The Responsive Method, our company values, and the generous benefits we offer.
**
Our technology**Our web application is a single-instance, multi-tenant Ruby on Rails monolith supported by Postgres (database), Redis (background jobs), and memcached (Rails caching). We also run a Node.js webserver to support collaborative editing and real-time updates. Our application is hosted on Amazon Web Services and architected with ECS for reproducibility and scalability.
We use React for rich client-side experiences on the front end. Some of the features we have built with React include:
- Our fully collaborative text editor: Supports multiple cursors and simultaneous editing by any number of users. We pride ourselves in the underlying technology.
- Our presentation editor: Allows users to create presentations with slide themes, shapes, text, and embedded Aha! reports that update live so the presentation is always current.
- Our Gantt chart: Supports scaling and scrolling to change the timeline, drag-and-drop, and quick actions to create records or sort the bars.
We embrace new technologies that help us deliver a lovable product, but we also remain cognizant of the maintenance overhead that a new library or platform brings. We solve the problems in front of us, rather than prematurely optimizing to address issues that may never materialize.
We do most of our planning and collaboration in Aha! Roadmaps and built Aha! Develop so that software engineers and their teams could take advantage of those same rich features. We use Slack and Zoom for video calls. (Email? Rarely.)
**

You want teammates who enjoy solving problems regardless of the technologies and techniques involved. You have worked at meaningful scale before and want to do so again. You also have the below experience and skills:
- 2+ years of experience working in React
- Producing scalable, data-intensive React pages
- Experience building features (ideally at a high-growth SaaS company)

But we need more engineers to build the product faster and basically flood the whole desert.
One pillar of the product is the analytics and reporting capabilities. You can check out our live demo: https://hockeystack.com/live-demo.
Your job will be a combination of primarily backend and a little bit of frontend work:
* Writing new SQL queries and optimizing the current queries for better performance and accuracy

We’re looking for a Senior Back End Engineer - maybe someone who has been full stack in the past (i.e actually has sympathy for Front End requirements) and has decided that ‘back end’ is where it’s at for them - then doubled down. Maybe you're just a Back End Dev with empathy and good communication skills. Maybe you identify as a Mid-level Dev, moving into a Senior space, or maybe you’re a seasoned Senior looking for something newer and more hands on / IC - because, to be clear, this is 100% a hands-on role.
The decoupled nature of Quota means you’re in the DevOps mindset and if you have an interest in - or have deployed - API handling/versioning/architecture, data modelling, big data handling, data analytics, calculations/algorithms and SecOps - this might be a great fit for you. There's scope to be creative in your solutions, but day one we'll be focused on making good for scale and production. Quota is always going to be a back end-led platform, so we're looking for that magic person who is going to own what they build.
Coming into this team, you’ll have the advisory of two CTO brains, but you’ll be the first full time back end developer we’ve brought on, and as such, you’ll be building, communicating and deploying on your own skills and setting the standards with minimum supervision and maximum reach. There will be no hierarchies, no cliques, no egos and no ignorance for you to have to deal with -but you will need to be a good communicator and generally loveable.
Our full stack is AWS Lambada and ECS, Python, Django and ReactJS.
