Our team**Aha! engineering is a mid-sized, fully remote team that is highly productive. We are centered around North American time zones so we can collaborate during the workday.
- We help each other grow: We each bring unique skills to the table and want our teammates to feel valued from the start. Our onboarding program exposes new hires to the codebase and lets them contribute right away.
- We move quickly: We ship code multiple times a day. We believe in getting valuable features in front of customers and iteratively improving as we learn what works and what does not.
- We value product over process: We want the team to have the time and focus on solving complex challenges. We minimize the overhead by setting clear goals and avoiding heavyweight processes and excessive meetings.
- We share knowledge freely: We share our learnings with each other and with the developer community. Our engineering blog demonstrates how we tackle interesting challenges at Aha!
- We enjoy: We like what we do. And we want you to love your team and your job too. Learn more about The Responsive Method, our company values, and the generous benefits we offer.
**
Our technology**Our web application is a single-instance, multi-tenant Ruby on Rails monolith supported by Postgres (database), Redis (background jobs), and memcached (Rails caching). We also run a Node.js webserver to support collaborative editing and real-time updates. Our application is hosted on Amazon Web Services and architected with ECS for reproducibility and scalability.
We use React for rich client-side experiences on the front end. Some of the features we have built with React include:
- Our fully collaborative text editor: Supports multiple cursors and simultaneous editing by any number of users. We pride ourselves in the underlying technology.
- Our presentation editor: Allows users to create presentations with slide themes, shapes, text, and embedded Aha! reports that update live so the presentation is always current.
- Our Gantt chart: Supports scaling and scrolling to change the timeline, drag-and-drop, and quick actions to create records or sort the bars.
We embrace new technologies that help us deliver a lovable product, but we also remain cognizant of the maintenance overhead that a new library or platform brings. We solve the problems in front of us, rather than prematurely optimizing to address issues that may never materialize.
We do most of our planning and collaboration in Aha! Roadmaps and built Aha! Develop so that software engineers and their teams could take advantage of those same rich features. We use Slack and Zoom for video calls. (Email? Rarely.)
**

Hi!
Lightup Network Solutions GmbH & Co. KG is a small ISP and telecommunications service provider (VoIP) based in Frankfurt, Germany. Lightup's team is 100% remote, distributed worldwide (Germany, Portugal, Serbia, Morocco, Brazil, Colombia) and consists currently of just 7 mostly non-tech people. Now we need a hybrid Web Dev / Sys Admin tech pro to join our small team. Lightup was established in 1998 as a ISP focused on webhosting and dedicated servers. Since 2011 Lightup has shifted its core business towards internet-based telecommunication services, primarily so-called DIDs a.k.a. virtual telephone numbers along with international retail and wholesale call termination (VoIP, SIP). In 2022 Lightup became a licensed telecom operator in Switzerland and the wholesale business has been booming since then.
Your tasks would be:
- Short-term (now - 6 months): Create multiple new commercial telecom-oriented web-based services from scratch based on the team's ideas (PHP + MySQL preferred, but really up to you)
- In the mid-term (6 - 12 months), create, re-design & code from scratch successor sites for outdated Joomla-based sites
- Create Linux console-based or web-based scripts and tools to support the team, such as customer accounting scripts / accounting & billing automation or VoIP buy- and sell-rates output automation (Bash, Perl, Python, PHP - your choice)
- Take care of 30+ KVM-based VMs and the 20+ underlaying physical servers running CentOS
- Keep CentOS installations updated, migrate those which are too old to new installations
- Set up new VoIP customers in our VoIP system / cluster (Asterisk, Kamailio)
- Analyze, troubleshoot and fix SIP and DID call issues / Work & communicate with vendors and customers alike
- Provide technical customer & order support for our 2 Joomla-based retail telecom services
- Create a new API from scratch for lawful interception compatibility / requests
- Constantly communicate with the team (WhatsApp, Slack) and help them to make their non-tech jobs easier by the creation of cool & useful new tools
Some commands / tools that should be familiar:
- vim and vi
- ssh, rsync
- sort, cut, tail, head
- awk, sed, tr, wc
- grep, uniq, paste, join, shuf
- top (and understand what you're seeing)
- ps (and understand what you're seeing)
- ifconfig, netstat, tcpdump, ping, traceroute, mtr, whois
- ls, cd, cp, mv, rm, cat, echo, mkdir, find, date, df
- screen, less, more
- yum
- (Bonus: sngrep, kamctl, sipsak)
If you're not typing most of these commands multiple times on a daily basis into your SSH client or into your local console then you can stop reading at this point and skip to the next job offer. Else, since you are a Linux console person, please read on...
Some server daemons, binaries and tech that you'll be dealing with:
- Apache / httpd
- MySQL / MariaDB / mysqld / mysql
- sshd
- KVM / qemu / vncserver
- cron
- iptables
- Bash
- ProFTPD
- Asterisk
- pssh
- Kamailio
- X / GNOME
- tinydns / dnscache
- Nagios
- Sendmail, postfix, exim, SpamAssassin, Dovecot (via DirectAdmin)
- MRTG
- IPMI / KVM-over-IP
- BackupPC
- (Optional network admin bonus: Juniper M- and SRX-series routers, HP ProCurve switches, vrrp, BGP, RIPE)
Minimum languages that you'll need, software and protocols that you'll have to either already know or learn:
- Bash Shellscript
- PHP
- Joomla (from scratch, heavily modified, forget click-to-install modules/add-ons)
- MySQL / MariaDB
- Apache Webserver
- SIP
- Asterisk
This is a freelancer position, meaning you'll be responsible for taking care of paying taxes, health insurance, social insurance, pension fund etc. by yourself.
You'll be working just 6 hours per day, not 8 hours. But since Lightup's team is global and so are our customers those 6 hours will be spread over the course of a day European time (CET, Berlin) between 10:00 and 22:00. Imagine it like 12 hours standby per day (WhatsApp, Slack, E-Mail) but effectively 6 hours will be dedicated to Web Development, Sys Admin and Tech Support tasks.
Your profile:
- Highly self-motivated & independent, but still a team player
- Good communicator, friendly attitude
- Flexible, curious to learn & try new
- Very accurate, with tendency to perfectionism
- You're working careful and exact, and you re-read your changes multiple times before you actually save the file
- Multiple years Linux experience & created multiple web-based services (PHP + MySQL or comparable) from scratch
- You are a real coder, you don't drag & drop buttons and menus and call that coding
- You can edit / read / write code with a text editor on your Linux console and you actually understand what you're reading and writing
Education, age, gender not important. Yes, we're looking for a Linux / Web Dev geek / pro. If you're living in your mothers basement for the last 10 years that's OK. If you're never leaving your appartment that's OK too. If you're happily married and have 4 children that's fine too. Coding on laptop is inefficient and slow, so if you are a nomad you need at least a real keyboard + mouse or you'll be too slow.
Thank you for reading until this point and looking forward to read from you via E-Mail! :-) -> [email protected]

The product
June is instant product analytics. We connect to Segment and automatically generate graphs of the metrics companies should track.
Analytics products are normally technical and intimidating, we're building an experience that is simple and approachable.
If you want to give the product a try you can sign up from here and try out our demo mode.
This is our story so far - you'll help us shape what will happen next.
This role
We're a small team of six, so there's a bit of everything to do. One day you might be tweaking our slowest queries, the next you could be writing an integration with a data warehouse. You might spend a day building a linter for event names and the next building some automated email reports.
We hope that you’ll have a skill set that complements our own - you’ll know more about some things than we do, and we might be more experienced in areas you’re unfamiliar with.
You might go deep on some areas of our stack and become the in-house expert, but always with an eye towards the shared mission and helping where help is needed.
CS degree? Bootcamp? Taught yourself? Whatever.
We care about what you can do now, and how quickly you can learn. It doesn’t matter how you got here. Our technical and product challenges are constantly shifting and changing, and the only way to keep up is to learn fast. This holds true even if you consider yourself an expert already.
Most of all, if you’re excited by the challenge, then COUNT YOURSELF IN!
About you
We're looking for people that are friendly, ambitious and nerdy
- Nerdy - You cultivate your taste and curiosity. You’re honest with yourself about what you find interesting.
It’s a fundamentally nerdy thing to decide to sit down and spend years of your life exploring your interests. Doing it for you is a joy in itself, and it’s also a great gift that you can give to others.- Friendly - You give sincere compliments, are a warm host, and enjoy artful conversations. You try to be a cherished asset of any space you inhabit. We strive to be optimistic, supportive, and encouraging. We always assume good intentions!- Ambitious - You want to do more, be more, see more, learn more, know more. You realize your own imagination is the bottleneck for the great things you can achieve!About us
- You'll join me (Ferruccio 🇮🇹), Vinayak 🇮🇳 , Adis 🇧🇦🇮🇪, Daniel 🇮🇪, Alberto 🇮🇹 and Enzo 🇫🇷
- We're backed by some of the best investors in the world like Y Combinator and Point Nine- You'll join a team of experienced product builders from Intercom, CircleCI, Grofers, N26, and more.- You will grow fast and work at scale - we process millions of data points per day- You can get meaningful equity- You'll ship new features weeklyWhat's next?
Apply with your Github, some projects of yours that you're proud of and 2-3 sentences on the work you're most proud of
Optionally, include 1 thing you're learning or want to learn, and an obscure website you enjoy reading!
What's our stack?
- The main app is built with Ruby on Rails and React
- We use Postgres and ClickHouse as databases- We are fully hosted on AWS and use most of their services (EKS, RDS, Lambda, Code Pipeline, etc.)- While previous experience with these technologies is a plus, we’re looking for someone with broad experience- We don't do staging and deploy features to production multiple times a day, so everything you'll ship will have to have tests or live behind a feature flag- If you’re only interested in using <insert-framework-here>, this role probably isn’t a good fit for you.** NB: This a rough guideline for what compensation we expect for this role and will depend on seniority, split between cash and equity, and local rates.*

This app is an awesome, new, clean Rails monolith, built by our CTO, a 17 year Rails veteran. We are big old-school Rails lovers here. We use long-time best practices as well as all the fun new features, e.g. Turbo and Stimulus.
We launched 5 months ago and so we have a healthy combination of bugs, customer-facing features, backend/admin tooling to work on.
You would be taking full ownership of this app, meaning you are the braintrust and bottom line for it, you understand the codebase and are the lead dev, you manage the small dev team, you work with the product team to work out feature details, you write and prioritize tickets, and you oversee the production ops.
We are currently hiring for this position on a full-time contract basis, but are open to discussion.
Requirements:
- Rails must be your primary, daily development platform, for at least 5 years. This is not for casual Rails developers who mostly work with other tools.
- You must have built and managed MANY Rails apps yourself, including large-scale or complicated apps
- You have managed teams before and know how to work as a technical lead that works with the product team
- You know Tailwind CSS inside and out
- You know Hotwire / Turbo / Stimulus JS
Technical Requirements:
- Backend: Postgresql, Elasticsearch, AWS, Sidekiq, Heroku
- Gems: Devise, Pundit, AASM, many many others
- Frontend: Tailwind CSS, jQuery, Stimulus, HTML, Turbo
- Testing: Strong test/spec practice (practical, not exhaustive)
Work Environment:
- We are a fun group who loves what we do
- We work hard and we move fast
- We love a simple, clean, “nothing extra” approach to products and development
- You would work with our CTO, a 17 year Rails veteran
- We will hold daily scrum-style meetings
- Work is remote only
- Availability over weekends for production support is not required but a bonus
You LOVE programming. Been doing it for a long time. Can’t help build projects in your spare time.
You LOVE Ruby on Rails. Yeah, it’s not the most popular thing out there, but it fits your brain like a hand in a glove. Custom DSLs, ultra-flexible, great library. It just makes you happy.
And Javascript. React, React Native, Svelte, Stimulus, and of course plain vanilla JS. So cool what you can do & how elegantly these days. You are also interested in OpenAI.
Speaking of, you LOVE simplicity. Elegantly simple is your middle name. you’re not satisfied until it has that feel, that smell of elegant simplicity. You’re not afraid to push back on requirements & be creative in coming up with a better, simpler way.
You’re confident in yourself & your abilities. You know what great looks like & you’re not easily satisfied with your own work. You’re not afraid to speak what’s on your mind.
You thrive in an organized and focused environment where decisions are made swiftly and the vision is clear. You’re autonomous, and a great team player, able to take direction and build off of it.
What you DON’T love is red tape, politics, and dumb, complicated solutions just because no one had the courage to do better and stand up for their convictions.
If this is you, apply immediately!
What’s in it for you
- You’ll be able to point to exactly what you created, both features and open-source projects that we release.
- With just 8 engineers we created what other companies take armies to make, and we'll teach you how to work this effectively.
- You get to see how great it feels when you grant someone's wish that might take you 4 minutes, but totally makes their day!
- You’ll be part of a supportive team that has each other’s backs and doesn’t indulge in drama. We want to see everyone succeed because we want to see our customers taken care of.
Benefits
- 4 weeks of paid vacation per year, increasing to 5 after three years. Plus 10 holidays and 10 sick/wellness days.
- Wellness stipend to help pay for your gym. Exercise makes you smarter.
- We'll pay for a laptop or other gear you need to be productive (up to $1500).
- We’ll pay for an audible membership. Books also make you smarter.
What sets Simplero apart
- No VCs. No outside funding. No exit strategy. We do it because we love it today, and want to continue doing this in perpetuity, not because we hope to make out like bandits in the future.
- We're profitable and have been in business for 14 years. It's a solid, stable, proven company, product, and model, not some fly-by-night operation or risky gamble.
- We have 2,500+ active customers who have made almost $400M using Simplero. We’re the real deal.
- We're founded by a developer (Calvin) who is still personally and passionately leading Product and Engineering, so you've got deep technical understanding and support right from the top. He’s highly involved in the technical decisions of our company & you’ll receive direct input from Calvin.
- We work efficiently and quickly and never do shitty work. Our team is unified, decisive and goals are clear.
- We solve real problems for real people that they're happy to pay us real money to solve for them. We go home each day knowing we made a difference in someone's life.
- We have a strong community around us, and cherish our close and mutually respectful relationships with our customers. It feels good knowing the people we’re serving.
- We do things differently from other companies. You'll see.
What we absolutely require
I'll be honest. It's a big project with lots of moving parts, and we move fast (like a bullet train).
This job is not for everyone. We have high standards and communicate clearly. You’ll be held accountable for your work and we care about you as a person. Driven, ambitious, caring, and clear communicators fit well with us. If you think you'd fit in, get in touch.
